Pulling the plug on Pontcysyllte
Lucky local school boy David Halligan got to be the first child to pull the plug at Pontcysyllte Aqueduct
David Halligan came along with his family and headteacher as the winner of the local draw to be the lucky child to be allowed to pull the plug and let the water out of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. "I thought it would be a sink plug, but it wasn't" said David after performing the important task "I was nervous but it was quite fun actually". Many people turned up to watch the event which only happens once every ten years. The water is let out for British Waterways engineers to inspect the aqueduct and check everything is in working order. David became quite the celebrity as television reporters and press vied for an interview. Look out for him on the news tonight! Also at [BBC](http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/north_east/8350221.stm) I spoke with the headteacher of David's school, Ysgol Bryn Collen primary, who was proud of his pupil and was looking forward to January when the children at the school are going to be studying water and discovering more about the amazing World Heritage Site.
