Standedge Schools' Week
Schools joined the WOW team to brave the tunnel and learn about the waterways
Standedge Tunnel and Visitor Centre became a classroom for the week as children made their way (by a variety of transports!) to the visitor centre. They braved a trip into the tunnel and learnt how the tunnel was made and what it was like to work in there 200 years ago. They want on to try out the legging machine in order to expreience life as a boater and to build their own canal in the comfort of the old warehouse. Staff and children had a brilliant week, learning lots about the area and its links to other places. The schools can't wait to come again next year. If you're school is interested in booking a visit to the Standedge tunnel check out our destination page or call Standedge Visitor Centre on: 01484 844298 (March -October) or 0113 281 6860 (November - March).
