Families

The Interactive exhibition with cinematic centrepiece will be of particular interest to children. Play area and maze make this attraction suitable for children of all ages.

Schools

Schools and groups are always welcome at Anderton Boat Lift and there are workshops aimed at 7-11 year olds available.

A Victorian Masterpiece – This workshop explores the lives of the people who worked on the lift and the people who used it in this period. Children can make a peg doll in period costume. Why not make the day even more special and dress up as Victorian boaters? NC: Hist 1a, 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d, 3, 4a, 5b, 5c, 7, 8a, 11a QCA: History Unit 12 How did life change in our locality in Victorian times? History Unit 18 What was it like to live here in the past?

Is it a Work of Art? - A workshop investigating the lift as a work of art. The children will look closer at the lift and consider different aspects such as line, colour and texture. This will lead them into producing their own artwork using the lift as a starting point. This can be linked to an artist of your choosing. NC: Art 1a, 1b, 1c, 2a, 2b, 2c, 4a, 5a, 5b, 5c, 5d This workshop can be linked to QCA and Cheshire Art Schemes.

Floating and Sinking – What helps something float or sink? Why are boats shaped in certain ways? And for older groups, how does having a boat loaded with a particular cargo make a difference? Practical investigative workshop which the children get to put their knowledge in action by designing, creating and testing their own boats.
